Coach To Lead Book Club – September

The Dichotomy of Leadership

Book by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin

Coach To Lead is a platform designed for connecting, networking, and sharing the game. Philosophically, I believe in the phrase Coach To Lead. My purpose is to coach players and to build leaders.

Welcome to the tenth month of the Coach To Lead book club. I’ve read and am currently reading some great books, and am looking to get back to consistently sharing some insight from them. I most recently finished The Dichotomy of Leadership Book by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. I was introduced to Jocko Willink and Leif Babin by my mentor, George Raveling, in 2016. He gifted me Extreme Ownership, another of their books I highly recommend.

There’s so many books, ideas and information on leadership. Under the advice from Coach Rav, I began studying leadership every single day over the last 6 years. Jocko and Leif share powerful real life examples of leadership through their military service. They also apply the lessons they learned and share it through a practical business example. The book is build on Dichotomies, each of which are shared below.

  • Own it All, but Empower Others.
  • Resolute, but Not Overbearing.
  • When to Mentor, When to Fire.
  • Disciplined, Not Rigid.
  • A Leader and a Follower.
  • Plan, but Don’t Overplan.
  • Humble, Not Passive.

I highly recommend giving The Dichotomy of Leadership Book by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin a read if you’re looking to improve your life through inspired change and relatable actions.
