Dear Middleton,
THANK YOU. The last two years at Middleton High School have meant everything to me.
I’ve made the extremely difficult decision to resign from my position as Head Boys Basketball Coach. I’ll be continuing my basketball career in Phoenix. I’m looking forward to being mentored, taught and working alongside the best of the best. My burden and purpose remain the same – to serve others through basketball.
First things first, thank you to my wife and my two girls. None of this happens without their love and support. I cherished bringing my girls to the gym. They love the Viking gym and the boys. My wife, Shayla, is the only one who truly knows everything it took to coach and love this program. She was supportive through the time away, the late nights, the non-stop conversations and thoughts, and she witnessed all the emotions. She was just as much a part of leading this program as I was. Her leadership came behind the scenes. I love her and am thankful for my family’s continued support.
Thank you to the passionate and supportive Middleton community. One thing that gives Middleton a competitive advantage is the exceptional community. They played a pivotal role in our successes. Thank you to the administration for the belief, support, trust and constant backing. Middleton has strong leadership and vision.
Thank you to my assistant coaches. It was our program, and I appreciate the time spent building it beyond expectation. Thank you for all the work behind the scenes to help run the basketball program. We came into this as complete strangers, and leave as brothers. My hope is the job stays in house, with my staff.
Most importantly, it’s about the student athletes. Thank you to the Middleton basketball brotherhood. It was an absolute honor to coach, teach, mentor and develop lifelong relationships with you. Thank you for the work you put in. The buy in. The execution. The practices. The bus rides. Thank you for cramming together in the Viking ship all summer. For all the fun. The laughs. The wins. The losses. The highs and lows. We did it all together, and that’s what makes it all so special. Regardless of my title, I will also be in your corner, whatever walk of life. I love you guys. You’ve impacted my life forever. I’ve been blessed to be in your presence! It feels like we were just getting started. Middleton basketball is set up for success because of you guys!
At the end of the year Mr. Ankeny asked me the question, “how do you define success for the basketball program?” As Marcus Aurelius wrote, “real success, real mastery, real sanity, means tying your well being to your own actions. To your effort, not the results.”
I’d like to tie the success of our tenure into our collective effort. Here’s a few things our effort produced.
Let’s say it one more time…
1, 2, 3 COMPETE 4, 5, 6 FAMILY –
It’s my hope we cross paths again!
