Teaching The Princeton Offense – Alabama Huntsville

Princeton Offense – Point Series – Shooting Reads and Utilizing Both Sides of the Court

The University of Alabama Huntsville does a great job utilizing pace within their Point Actions. They like to go opposite from the Away Action into the DHO with a shooter. The angle of the screen is an above angle, making it extremely difficult for the defender to lock and chase. This triggers the shot read from the offensive player receiving the DHO.

They are one of the first teams I’ve studied who has been able to flow into the point series on both sides of the floor in one possession. Their point man has the freedom to take his defender off the dribble from the point spot, and uses the pop to change sides of the floor.

Key Teaching Points

  • Teach your offensive players the different screening angles – 1. Above 2. Even. 3. Below.
  • Defender goes under the screen, the read is to shoot it (re-screen for a non-shooter).
  • Pop the point man in order to create the swing and second side action.
