Teaching The Princeton Offense – Sacramento Kings Point Series

Clip 1: Point Away

  • Forwards out entry into Point Away. Fox stays spaced and high during the forwards out entry on the opposite side, which is what we taught at the HS level. The intent was to eliminate the defender cheating and running through the pass on the swing. Huerter curls the split, and the defender is in the lock and chase with him being a knock down shooter. Fox’s defender helps on the curl for a second, giving Fox the advantage on the hand off for the open three.

Clip 2: Five Out Point Over

  • Sabonis pops out beyond the three point line to trigger the Point action from a 5 out alignment. Barnes rejects the split, triggering the DHO for Sabonis and Murphy. Sabonis makes good contact on the screen, allowing Murphy to create some additional space with the push dribble into the three point shot.

Clip 3: Point Fist

  • After the forwards out entry, instead of entering the ball to the point spot, the big sprints out in the high pick and roll. A key teaching point here is to get the big to change speeds when entering the pick and roll. With the defender anticipating an elbow catch, he’ll naturally slow down. With a sprint, the big can create more separation, giving more of an advantage. Fox sets up the screen with the in and out dribble, one of my favorite moves to teach. With Green in the drop coverage, Fox steps into the wide open three.
